Choosing the Right Roofing Contractor

It is important to do some research before choosing a roofing contractor, simply because anyone with a few dollars for startup costs can start a roofing business.  You want a reliable, reputable contractor to repair or replace your roof or put the roof on a new home you are building.  We at Advanced Roofing Ontario offer these tips for finding the roofing contractor that’s right for you and we hope you find them helpful.

Always make sure that the company does quality work.  Ask for references and check them.  Drive around and look at roofs they have done.  Any reputable contractor will proudly give you some locations so that you can see their work.  Repeat customers are a sure sign that a roofing contractor might be a good choice.  After all, few people return to do business with a company they are unhappy with.  Check to see if the company completes jobs on time and how long they have been in business.

A reputable roofing company will usually have a written code of conduct for employees and hire experienced crews, not part-time amateurs.  Ask if they do background checks on their employees; you need to trust people working around your house and family or tenants.  Good customer service is one of the most important aspects of a good roofing contractor.  There should be someone there that can answer all your questions and explain the process to you in as much detail as you wish.  They should be willing to propose the best solution for you, not the most profitable one for them.

Be sure they are properly insured, licensed, certified and have no outstanding complaints with the Business Bureau.  Every business has complaints, of course, but how quickly they resolve them will tell you a lot.  If a company has an inordinate number of complaints, consider looking elsewhere.  Be suspicious of bids that are more than 15%-20% below the lowest bid you receive; this can mean you’ll get inferior workmanship and materials.  Always read the warranty before you sign a contract.  It should include a warranty on materials and labour for at least a year and be sure to examine any exclusions that are listed.  You also need to read the entire contract and look for hidden charges.

Finally, get everything in writing.  Insist on an unconditional lien release from all their suppliers and subcontractors before you pay for the job in full. Following these guidelines, you will find that Advanced Roofing Ontario is definitely a company you should consider when looking for a roofing contractor.
